The NEW East Troy Village Hall

The East Troy Village Board met on Monday Dec. 15, 2008 and quoting the East Troy Times Dec. 17 edition- front page 13 paragraph- of the article

"Village postpones discussion of 'snow on square' " :
"The board also approved nine change orders with Scherrer Construction to renovate the former Trent Tube office building into the new village hall at a $9,987 increase."

Does anyone else see the 'Black Hole' the Village Board is shoveling into?!
So the Village can't afford to remove the snow from the Square (a direct violation of East Troy Village Ordinances) but we still pour monies into our New'Moldy' Village Hall building.

As of this date according to William Joas (ET Village Board Trustee) the amount being allocated towards the new building is over $3.4 Million Dollars.
And just how do the ET Village voters spell relief ----------------R E C A L L !!

Letter to the Editor

With much confusion and not knowing where else to turn, I address the following: the new East Troy Village Hall proposed for 2015 Energy Drive.

A few questions and concerns:
-After totally remodeling inside and out the existing Village Hall/Police Dept, why are we now moving out with no plan for its future use other than to let the current real estate market conditions improve for possible sale in 2010?
-After negotiating a seemingly fantastic real estate deal (with no professional real estate input) and in a big hurry for the sellers (in a BUYERS market), and apparently waiving the Inspection process, why are we now addressing alarming leaky water and MOLD issues that are appearing?
-Is the Village of East Troy board, who are planning on spending over $2,500,000 to buy and remodel this building, going to look into possible fraudulent actions by the sellers and RENEGOTIATE the price of the building or maybe just get their money back?
-Is anyone else out there concerned about any of this?

As the former President of the Village Board of East Troy, I am amazed. Where on earth did the Village Board get the audacity to spend these amounts without some type of Public Referendum! Yes, I know by borrowing the money thru the bonding process it doesn’t make the Village Budget and raise red flags but come on. I’m also aware a referendum is non-binding but don’t you want the residents to know what’s happening with their tax dollars or do you have something to hide?

Just because you don’t pack the house for board meetings, doesn’t mean nobody cares about wasteful spending. They DEPEND upon the board to be their financial steward.
This great deal has to, at the very least, be halted to determine possible legal recourse with the disbanding sellers (who in the very near future will not exist) to face financial consequences if proved.

Any more meetings on carpet color, interior decorating, and the NEW VILLAGE LOGO must obviously be placed on hold to see if just maybe the whole building is so contaminated it needs to be torn down. We have lived with the present building for many years and yes I know its way too small but a slight delay just might stop a huge “Money Pit”.

Yours truly,
Ken Andrews
